The Arts Council of North Karelia is the decision-making body regarding arts and cultural policy for North Karelia. The Council is committed to cultural and artistic life in North Karelia. The Finnish Ministry of Education provides appropriations for the Council.

The nine members of the Arts Council represent various sectors of the arts in North Karelia. Members are chosen from a field of recommended candidates from the regional artistic and cultural organisations and institutions.

...supports
North-Karelian professional artists and art associations through awarding grants. Subsidies are also given to people engaged in the arts, artistic organisations and other cultural communities.

...co-operates actively
in regional development with other organisations such as the Regional Council of North Karelia, University of Eastern Finland, municipalities, numerous cultural associations and social activists.

...creates and implements ideas
for a variety of initiatives concerning artistic and cultural projects of diverse dimensions in the region.

...takes a stand on
regional and national cultural life events and gives statements regarding culture-related issues.

...promotes
arts and environmental culture and unprejudiced co-operation and reciprocity amongst artists and other workers in these fields in order to develop and strengthen North Karelia's cultural and individual direction.

...opens up
connections to Europe and the world.
